Shuffle Up and Deal!
Flipping through a deck of playing cards are one of the easiest ways to randomize all sorts of items in the classroom. Whether you’re breaking students into groups, taking a quick brain break, assigning card-coded tasks, or pulling up unexpected question prompts — I’ve used playing cards in the classroom for all sorts of activities in my physical classroom. But with the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to hybrid and distance learning, physical playing cards are totally out of the question (at least for now). Still, this doesn’t mean that the time away from the brick and mortar classroom should have to prevent you from presenting vibrant, fully engaged classroom activities at a distance. That’s why I whipped up this virtual deck of playing cards — ready to download and infinitely reusable for just about any classroom activity you could possibly dream up.
READY TO USE COOL THING NUMBER ONE:
The first slide contains a complete 52 card deck. You can right click any image in the deck to send the top card to the back of the deck and reveal a new card.
MIX IT UP WITH COOL THING NUMBER TWO:
On slide #2, you can also “shuffle” cards manually by right clicking any one card at a time to send it to the front or back. When you’re finished, click and drag around EVERY card in the deck to select ALL of the cards and right click to “ALIGN HORIZONTALLY” (left) and “ALIGN VERTICALLY” (top) to reset your newly shuffled deck into a single neat pile.
OR CHANGE THE GAME WITH BONUS COOL THING NUMBER THREE:
If you’d prefer to use full screen-sized cards, you can Install the Google Slides “Slides Randomizer” Add-on to reshuffle your virtual deck at any time!
